IP Video is currently transforming CCTV surveillance. In this technology video signals are digitized and streamed over IP

(Internet Protocol) networks.

Anologue CCTV has been around for 20 years or so and in

this time it has become very good. In fact it has become so good,

that some say it is working at the upermost limits of its technology.

The next logical step is to move to IP technology. IP is used worldwide and over 90% of computer networks use this 'language'. This means not only can we interface with existing systems but we can change and adapt as IP speeds improve, increasing quality.

Images are stored digitally, so you never have to worry about forgetting to change a tape. Monitors can be PCs connected remotely meaning a saving on installation costs.      Cameras can have movement sensors, so recording and network transmission will only   start when movement is detected.

You may even decide to link up to your broadband connection, so you can see what's happening while you are away. With the latest 3G and 4G phones and text messaging you can be alerted while you are on the move and then view images from your mobile device.

IP Video also allows easy implementation of ‘intelligent’ functionality in cameras, beginning with motion detection, and extending nowadays towards Intelligent Video Analysis which compares real-time video with “known rules” for detecting suspicious events or behavior that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
